Nik Wicks, MA

Nik Wicks (they/them) is a dedicated counselor who works with adolescents, young/emerging adults, and established adults. They specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ adolescents, particularly those who are neurodiverse and/or experiencing depression or anxiety.

Nik has a strong interest in holistic and trauma-informed care and utilizes an eclectic therapeutic approach, drawing from a social constructivist and person-centered/strengths-based perspective. They frequently incorporate tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and art therapy.

More than adhering to any specific theory or modality, Nik is interested in identifying what works best for each client as an individual. They utilize various techniques such as worksheets, art therapy, motivational interviewing, and habit/behavioral training. Overall, Nik views therapy as a process of guided and assisted change—like a road trip, where the client is behind the wheel and they are in the passenger seat, helping to pick a destination and give directions while letting the client drive the car. This collaborative approach makes the journey as meaningful as the destination.

Nik has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Columbia College and a Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling with a focus on Art Therapy from Adler University. They are currently pursuing their ATR-P (Registered Art Therapist, Provisional) certification and have completed training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
